Potatoes Are In!

Spring!

We still have seedlings in the house. Peppers for bouquets, Chinese Lantern,
Celosia, Sunflowers, and ornamental grasses.

The 5 Blue Laced Red Wyandotte chicks are growing quickly.
Still have no clue whether we'll end up with 5 roos or not.

Mom and I planted the stock seedlings. That's Art's garlic and the newer
raspberry canes in the background.

Art pulled the old iron tub from the barn out for me to use to clean buckets, etc.
He's also been hard at work pruning, trimming, and weeding the raspberries.
Those are the dead canes in a pile for burning and that's Bodhi to the far left.

My temporary flower cooler is an old fridge in the market stall until
the Coolbot air conditioner arrives for the space Art had built in the wood shop.

And our tulip bunches wrapped for storage until our first market in 2 weeks!

Nathaniel Hawthorn and Charlotte Dickens spent their first day outside.

They were thrilled and enjoyed the new coop Art assembled for them.
The five wyandotte chicks are thriving in their little brooder and will
join Nathaniel and Charlotte in about 5 weeks.

The Hoophouse

Noami, Don, and I put the plastic "skin" on the hoop-house today.

Art and Noami worked on preparing this reclaimed door.

Now we'll be able to really get started.

Two Days Old

Lucy spends most of her days gazing and prowling around the two chick brooders

We picked up our Blue Laced Red Wyandotte chicks from our neighbor with whom we shared an order.

They're adorable and when they're not nodding off in an alarming slump they're
quite the chatterboxes.

Noami, Don, and Art worked on moving and re-constructing the hoophouse this weekend.
We're waiting for a VERY calm day to install the plastic.

Meet Charlotte Dickens and Nathaniel Hawthorne.
I'm pretty certain that Charlotte (a Buff Orpington) is a pullet and that
Nathaniel (probably a NH Red cross) is a cockerel.
His comb is not only bigger but is starting to get darker already.
They also react to sudden noises and movements very stereotypically.
